Our Group!
John Roark - John works in the Quality Assurance Department for Del Monte Foods Lawrence Plant, which manufactures pet food. He has worked at the plant for eight years, but has ten years experience in the manufacturing industry from various locations.
The picture to the right shows his LSI. It indicates that he prefers more of an assimilating learning style, which is based on an emphasis in the lower right quadrant. This means he prefers to learn by a combination of learning by abstract experience, and then reflecting upon that experience. While there are times he likes to learn by doing, he feels most comfortable in creating theories about what he has experienced and meditating on those theories. John likes to observe and then try to determine his own personal approach at solving problems or overcoming a learning obstacle. In some cases this can become a weakness.

Carrie Lavery - Carrie is currently a Relocation Agent with the Kansas Department of Transportation. She is an Air Force Veteran and understands the importance of higher education.
The picture to the right shows her LSI. It indicates that she leans towards a converging style. This means she values news ways of thinking and doing as well as setting goals and making decisions. Her kite shape places her squarely in the middle of the LSI spectrum. This places her in a unique position to be open to balancing the benefits of all learning styles. This type of style indicates that Carrie is comfortable using a variety of learning styles.

Corn Adkins - The results of Corn's Learning Style Inventory (LSI) state that he is an accommodator. This means he has a hands on approach to tasks, doing rather than thinking. In his own words, Corn says, "As I continues to go through this course, I find myself being more assimilator, having a cognitive approach, thinking rather than acting. I agree with my results in regards to job choice, learning environment, and overall learning styles. My learning style influences the work of other learning styles by motivation, seeing someone take the initiative to start something and set the tone for the project or task at hand."
Corn's LSI graph is to the right. The shape of his kite clearly favors abstract conceptualization (thinking), just as Corn admits to doing throughout this class.

Jennifer Hurley-
Jennifer is currently a Backhaul Specialist for Target Corporation in their Logistics department at their distribution center in Topeka. Although she has only worked for Target for eight years, she has 22 years experience in the Logistics field. Jennifer's LSI reflects the accommodating style which combines the active experimentation and the concrete experience phases. This fits her perfectly because when in training or learning something new she will always ask to sit down and perform the task as she is being taught. She does not comprehend as well if she is not performing the actual task while learning.
With the accommodating learning style there are several points that fit perfectly with her performance. The first is “showing the ability to get things done”; this fits into her strengths of accountability and ability to prioritize. The second is “taking risks” which fits with her strength of demonstrating courage. The third is “relating to people” which fits her strength of relating well to others. Each of these strengths has been strengths identified by not only herself but by management teams evaluating her performance.

Rian Sykes - Growing up with both parents having been teachers has made education and continued learning an extremely important part of Rian’s life. She currently does the bookkeeping and varying ad hoc assignments for a reinsurance company. According to Kolb’s Learning Style Inventory Rian’s learning style type is
assimilating. This type tends to forget about the people or the feelings and
focuses more on the ideas and concepts of things. This style relies heavily on
reflective observation and abstract conceptualization. Characteristics of this
include planning, researching, and analyzing. Rian’s kite makes it apparent that
she does not use learning by experiencing near as much as the other three types.
This is absolutely something that she can focus on to enhance her learning.
